Sharing inspiring stories and valuable life lessons of ordinary people doing extraordinary work
Welcome to this platform where endless possibilities abound. I am a proud immigrant of the twin island federation of St. Kitts and Nevis, the tiniest independent nation in the Western hemisphere. I love telling the stories of bold world citizens who adopt a new home away from their familiar home and have taken with them all of the tools that shaped their lives, allowing them to remain true to their homeland, helping their children and grandchildren to navigate their strange land, their home away from home. My passion is expressing my thoughts on issues that affect everyday people whose voices are easily submerged, especially as immigrants, and doing the necessary work to assist others in tangible and other meaningful ways. With a wealth of contributions to the global economy, immigrants are visionary, passionate, and imaginative players who have found our place in the world. We will neither be marginalized nor silenced. I choose to inform, to inspire, to empower and encourage others to believe in the power and the light within themselves. Hey you! "Don't you dare let your light be blown out!"
I talked a lot when I attended Primary school, and it didn't get better once I hit Secondary school. I also found pleasure in writing and even considered attending law school. Life handed me a love for people and as I grew older, the principles that shaped me as a Brownie, Girl Guide, Sunday School teacher and athlete all led me to the world of public service. I live by the mantra coined by
Bob Marley and the Wailers:
"Live for yourself, you'll live in vain; live for others you'll live again.
Be not selfish in your doings:
Pass it on. (Pass it on, children)
Help your brothers (help them) in their need:
Pass it on!"
I grew up in a tightknit community on a Caribbean Island renowned for its tranquility and utter natural beauty. I embraced the fast-moving world of technology once I decided to pursue undergraduate studies and my love for politics and people drove me to later pursue a Masters degree in International Business Relations. As I put my marketing and communications skills to work, I've learned the value of understanding people and this life skill has actually made me a better person. As co-founder of a not-for-profit called Green Valley Global, Inc., I have partnered with numerous individuals to help drive change where the need is great. The experiences I have encountered during my immigrant journey have inspired me to write as a voice for others, to share without reservation, and to appreciate the diversity this world offers.
I believe that sharing my work via various platforms reaches a diverse audience who share similar experiences. I am a member of a not-for-profit organization and I use that platform to support the work of other organizations in my community at home and abroad. While I believe we are a diverse people; in our thoughts and our goals, the commonality we share as a people is the pride and love we have for our birth home. One of the often-neglected platforms that I value highly is in the power of one-on-one conversations; heart to heart, private and life changing exchanges that help others navigate their way in life in a judgment free space. I use several platforms to connect with people including Facebook, Instagram, Linktree, Anchor, Apple Podcasts and YouTube. I value the opportunity to help others on any platform. The universe repays me exponentially when I give selflessly.
I have had the good fortune of being a parent to a son and a daughter. My son has had to find his way in the world of co-parenting, and he has navigated brilliantly and is proving he can stand on his own, evidence that our children are resilient, and we must constantly encourage them all while holding them accountable. My daughter is my biggest supporter and inspiration. She gives nuggets of advice that convince me she must have walked this earth before. She is wise beyond her years, and I marvel at her value in my life every day. She always reminds me of the mantra I taught her: "If you can think it and, in your heart, you believe it, GO make a way to ACHIEVE it. I couldn't be half the woman I am today without these human beings in my life and the man with whom I share them with. My inspiration drives me to inspire others.
"Live for yourself, you'll live in vain, Live for others, you'll live again.
In the Kingdon of Jah, Man shall reign! Pass it on."
